What we collect and why

A username and password. Your username can be anything as long as it is unique across all our users. We treat it as personal data, but you can of course choose an anonymous identifier which doesn't identify you. Your password is hashed, which means that it is stored in a form that does not reveal what your actual password is. It is possible to use most of the app's features without entering a username or password.Why: This is used to let you re-gain access to your account if you log out, or if you otherwise lose access (for example if you delete the app, lose your phone, or similar).

Your preferred language.Why: This allows us to display the app in your preferred language.

Your kitesurfing preferences (like kitesurfing spots, preferred wind conditions, and similar). We use this to present you a weather forecast that is relevant to you.Why: Your preferences are used to show you kiting conditions that match your preferences.

Any new kitesurfing spots you place, including its coordinates, name, and its ideal kitesurfing conditions.Why: This allows you to monitor kiting conditions anywhere, not only at the predefined kitesurfing spots, and it allows us to share popular spots with other users.

The date of your last activity in the app.Why: This enables us to check if you have been inactive for a longer period, in which case we may delete your account.
Where we collect your data from
Directly from you, when you choose to provide it through the app. It is always optional to provide us with your data, but some features may not work without it. Activity data is recorded automatically when you use the app.
Sharing of personal data
We do not share your personal data with anyone, unless required by law.
Sharing of new kitesurfing spots
Any new kitesurfing spots you place on the map are made available to other users of the app.
They are not instantly shared when created, but we periodically review and publish new spots.
We do not share any personal data about who created the spot.
If your spot has been published and you delete your data, then the spot will not be deleted, but any connection to your personal data will be removed.
How and where your data is stored and processed
On servers within the EU, rented from European service providers.
How long we keep your data for
Indefinitely, as long as you are actively using the app. We may delete your data if you have not used the app for a longer period.
Cookies
We use cookies that are strictly necessary to remember who you are between visits. We do not use any non-essential cookies (for example for analytics or marketing purposes).
Insight into your data
To see all the data we have stored on you, reach out to us. You will need to be able to prove that you are the owner of the account.
Modifying your data
To correct any incorrect data we have stored about you, you can change it yourself in the app at any time. That is the recommended method, but it is also possible to reach out to ask us to do it. You will need to be able to prove that you are the owner of the account.
Deleting your data
To delete your account and all associated data, you can do so yourself in the app at any time. That is the recommended method, but it is also possible to reach out to ask us to do it. You will need to be able to prove that you are the owner of the account.
Google Play Store testing program
If you sign up to test the Android app, we will register your e-mail address in the Google Play Store testers list. This is necessary for you to become a tester and is the mechanism by which Google will grant you access to download the app as a tester.
When the testing period is over, we will delete all e-mail addresses from our records and the Google Play Store testers list permanently.
You can e-mail us at any time to request that we delete your e-mail address before the testing period ends.
